‍2024 Navigation Workshop - 1-2 June

‍Returning this year is our popular navigation workshop! Whether you want to learn how to use a compass and map, improve your rogaining results, or relocate yourself in the bush - we have something for you!

Our experienced navigation coaches will mentor you through two days of exercises designed to prepare you for all bush navigation situations, including in the dark. The workshop will run from the 1st to the 2nd of June across maps local to Canberra. Entries will open by the end of the week. Places are limited - so get in quickly; more details to come soon. If you have any questions, contact Kelvin Meng at [email protected].

Remote Area First Aid Course - Final Call for Participants - 15-16 June

We have a few spots available in our Remote Areas First Aid Course on 15-16 June, (8.30am to 4.30pm each day). The trainer is Margot Hurrell who has extensive outdoor experience and teaching in remote first aid. The course will be held at Corroboree Park in Ainslie.

Here is your opportunity to be trained in what to do in the case of sickness or injury in the field. We only ask that you volunteer to be a First Aid Officer in at least one (preferably two) ACTRA events in the next three years.

Participants will get the national accreditation Statement of Attainment for the following units:

  • HLTAID009 (Provide CPR) (valid for 1 year)

  • HLTAID011 (Provide First Aid) (valid for 3 years) and

  • HLTAID013 Provide First Aid in a Remote or isolated area (valid for 3 years)

ACTRA is covering the cost of the training. If you would like to attend, please email Benita on [email protected].

Up Hill and Down Dale Virtualgaine 25 May to 10 June

This year's virtualgaine event area includes Mt Arawang, Mt Taylor, McQuoid’s Hill, Urambi Hills and the Tuggeranong valley suburbs of Kambah, Oxley and Greenway. The start is at Kambah Woolshed in Kambah.

It’s a virtual event, which means that you can take part at any time between Saturday 25 May and Monday 10 June 2024, and the course uses the MapRun app on your phone or watch to record your visits to control sites; there are no control flags. (The course will still be available on MapRun after the closing date, but you won’t be included in the official results).

This is one of the few events that you can do solo, although a friend is always more fun!

Maps can be downloaded from the website and printed, or some printed on teslin will be put in Paddy Pallins on Lonsdale Street, Braddon. We will do our best to make sure there are plenty there but we cannot guarantee they won't be all taken, particularly if you go in later.

Check out our course-setter Jon Glanville's photos of the area in the gallery.

‍Winter 4 hr setters/vetters

‍We are on the lookout for setters and vetters for the annual Mid Winter 4 hour event to be held on 7 July! Setting and vetting the course is done in the weeks and days leading up to the event and is the best way to truely see what goes into designing a rogaine. So if you are keen to take a peek behind the curtain, please get in touch through the contact button below or via Facebook!

‍Metrogaine Volunteer Callout

‍The 2024 Metrogaine will be taking place in the Tuggeranong Valley on Sunday 4 August. If you'd like to help out please email Benita on [email protected]. We are looking for vetters/control hangers (especially on 3 August), control collectors and admin help on the day.
