Spring Rogaine in Bondo State Forest - 15 November

We're holding 6 and 12 hour rogaines in the Bondo State Forest west of Canberra (50 km east of Tumut) on Saturday 15th November. We are still waiting on formal permisison but are confident this will be provided so please enter now.

The area features a mix of native and pine forest with some fire-trails and tracks. The area is unburnt and looks fantastic after all the rain. The flowers will be blooming too, including lots of orchids. Altitude is around 1100 metres and there are patches of snow grass, so despite being late in the year it is unlikely to be too hot.

The course has been designed to provide easier routes that use the well-defined features, and more challenging loops for those looking for a physical and navigational challenge.

We are looking for two more people to help on the day. Please see the event page or contact Julie.

Summer rogaining fix in Tasmania?

Rogaining Tasmania will be running the Stagger On 24-hour Tasmanian Championships on December 6th and 7th, 2025. There will also be an associated non-championship 6-hour event.

This event will be held on farming properties in the Southern Midlands region, extending from just east of Bothwell almost to Oatlands. The terrain is varied, from open rolling paddocks and native grassy meadows through open forested hills and wet gullies. Unusually for Tasmania, the outcropping rocks are sandstone, which makes for some interesting features. The hash house is a 75-minute drive from Hobart Airport.

The rogaine will challenge competitive teams with plenty of distance, interesting navigation, and ample hilly bits. It will also offer novice entrants an opportunity to practice their navigation skills in pretty farmland and natural environments, and everyone in between will find a great mix of terrain, vegetation, and chances to spot the abundant Tasmanian wildlife (with no foxes, you'll see lots of animals!).

For older rogainers, Rogaining Tasmania have introduced an Extreme Veteran category where all team members must be 75 years of age or over.

24-hour events in Tasmania are uncommon so this is an opportunity not to be missed. If you have any queries, please contact Bernard - [email protected]‍

International rogaining‍

What does a bus in Osaka, Ollie and E Wen, 25 years of rogaining in Estonia and a picture of David and Julie at an ACTRA Champs have in common? They're all in the International Rogaining Federation's newsletter. Well, perhaps we just need to brag again that Ollie and E Wen won their category at the World Rogaining Champs in Spain! Have a read of the newsetter.

World Rogaining Champs 2027

Planning continues for the World Rogaining Championships which will be held in the Flinders Ranges in September 2027.

If you haven't yet seen the promotional video on the website - check it out!

The area where the event will be held, the Ikara-Flinders Ranges & Outback, has been named one of the world’s top travel destinations for 2026! Check out the media release: Ikara-Flinders Ranges & Outback named in world’s top places

We would love to recruit some more keen volunteers to the organising team - if you have any interest in helping out, regardless of where you live in Australia, please contact us here https://qldrogaine.asn.au/wrc2027/#contact It's going to be a big event, and with many volunteer roles you can still take part in the event. One role that SA Rogaining Association is keen to lock in is a catering manager. If you are interested in the challenge of catering for many people in a remote area with lots of helpers, please get in touch.‍

President's Piece‍

ACTRA's President Ollie James is tied up with exams so‍ I (Julie Quinn) have stepped in to give you the President's Piece as the Interim President of the International Rogaining Federation (IRF). I have taken this role on after there was a lack of interest from anyone in the rogaining community. In the next year, I hope to build on the conversation held at a meeting of the International Rogaining Federation Council meeting at the World Rogaining Champs in Spain. That meeting emphasised the IRF needs to improve our communication about rogaining generally and the role of the IRF. The Council, with reps from the 10 member countries, is starting to meet more regularly and hopefully you will start to see that with news about rogaining elsewhere in the world.

The most important role of the IRF is to ensure the World Rogaining Champs are held and run well. The next ones are here in Australia in 2027 (see item above) and there will be a call put out in early 2026 for bids to host the champs in 2029. The IRF Council is integral to helping countries put quality bids together and supporting them to put on a world-class event.

Finally, a little ask from me. I'm looking for a Secretary to be part of the IRF Executive. This is not a big task, probably a few hours each month. It involves helping with the regular meetings and organising the occassional formal correspondence in association with me. All business is in English. Please get in touch if you can help for more information - [email protected] or 0421 021 693.
